What is a biocide

Biocide is a substance capable of killing microorganisms. To destroy these microorganisms, it is very important in the water treatment and oil and gas extraction industries, and chemicals such as isothiazoline and glutaraldehyde are used.

Biocides are formulated based on different chemicals and the biocide base is different based on its use in industries. Biocides are formulated to kill different microorganisms, on this basis, the synergistic use of two biocidal bases in one formulation is possible.

Biocides include oxidizing and non-oxidizing biocides. According to the conditions of open and closed water cycles, biocides will be different. By examining the water analysis in industrial systems, the appropriate biocide will be suggested by experts.

Another important factor in providing biocides to the industry is the appropriate dose to kill microorganisms. Since the price of biocide is the basic issue of industries in Iran, biocides impose a suitable dose to the industrial water system based on the analysis of the available water, which will make the use of biocide cost-effective in industries.

Biocides are chemicals designed to kill various microorganisms. The effectiveness of biocides varies based on their concentration and the duration of their use. If the concentration of the biocide is lower than its lethal concentration or the duration of using the biocide is short, the effectiveness of the biocide is reduced and some microorganisms may survive.

These chemicals are used for drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, ship waste water treatment, disinfectants and as anti-rust agents that prevent the accumulation of molecules in industrial pipes. Biocides are produced in liquid and powder form, in ready-to-use formulations or as concentrates, and are used using different techniques.

Depending on the type of biocide, treated wastewater from ships must be detoxified by methods that prevent the discharge of unwanted concentrations of biocide. Many of their applications for wastewater treatment require chemical neutralizers.

These chemicals are widely used in health, food and water treatment industries. Factors that affect the effectiveness of biocides on microorganisms include its chemical characteristics, size and character of the organism, concentration, treatment process, contact time, and water quality (such as salt content, pH, temperature, oxygen content).
